Frequently asked questions

Other people manage without extra support. Shouldn't I?

We tend to think we should be able to deal with things on our own. But many situations in life benefit from being talked through in the company of a trained counsellor. In fact people often find counselling helps them develop and expand their own capacities.

Are my problems my fault?

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. Counselling can help tease out and loosen the hold of self-critical and self-sabotaging behaviours.

What kinds of benefit might I see?

In the shorter term, people often say they feel more centred, more grounded, more at home in themselves, more able to take decisions. In the longer term, people tend to experience more far-reaching and satisfying change.

I keep thinking about it but I put it off. Would it work for me?

Taking the first step is hard. In the first instance, you need to find out whether your counsellor is someone you can talk to. I offer an initial consultation without commitment while you explore who you would like to work with.

Won't people think there's something wrong with me if they find out I'm seeing a counsellor?

In fact counselling is very common and increasingly accepted. It is a way of taking responsibility for your life.
